The Ambassador of Italy to Georgia, H.E. Massimiliano D’Antuono, awarded Prof. David Lordkipanidze – Academic Director of Academia Europaea Tbilisi Hub and General Director of the Georgian National Museum – with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) in recognition of his distinguished service to the Republic of Italy.
Furthermore, upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, bestowed upon Prof. Lordkipanidze the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
This high distinction was awarded to Prof. Lordkipanidze for his outstanding contribution to the dissemination of Italian culture and scientific achievements in Georgia, as well as for his role in fostering close relations between the two countries.
“This award recognizes Prof. David Lordkipanidze’s dedicated efforts in promoting Italy’s cultural heritage in Georgia. Whether through sharing Italy’s best practices in the field of cultural heritage protection within the framework of academic conferences, or through implementing an unprecedented exhibition program that brought masterpieces of Italian art from major Italian museums to Georgia, his work has significantly enhanced public interest in Italian culture,” stated Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono in his address at the ceremony.
Prof. David Lordkipanidze is also a laureate of the prize of National Academy of Sciences of Italy. Under his leadership, numerous collaborative research and museum projects have been carried out both in Italy and in Georgia.
