Academia Europaea Tbilisi Hub
Overview
The Academia Europaea Tbilisi Hub was established in 2019 to serve as the organisation’s regional branch in the Caucasus. Hosted by the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the Hub aims to promote European standards in scholarship, scientific management, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the region.
What we do
At Academia Europaea Tbilisi Hub, we promote European standards of scholarship and foster academic collaboration across the region. Our work is centred on advancing interdisciplinary research that highlights the unique biocultural, linguistic, and ecological diversity of the South Caucasus.
The Hub supports excellence across all branches of science, with a special emphasis on exploring the links between culture and nature. We aim to position the region’s deep expertise in both the natural and human sciences within international research networks.
Through strategic partnerships, scientific events, and the development of Clusters of Excellence, we connect researchers and institutions, encourage knowledge exchange, and support projects that address regional challenges with global significance.
Biocultural Diversity and Regional Research Leadership
The Tbilisi Hub champions research that explores the complex interconnections between natural and cultural heritage in the South Caucasus. Recognising the region’s exceptional linguistic variety, ecological richness, and deep historical layers, we support academic initiatives that position the Caucasus as a living laboratory for studying biocultural diversity.
Our activities focus on integrating regional knowledge into broader scientific discourse through interdisciplinary approaches. Themes such as human-environment interaction, cultural resilience, and biodiversity conservation are explored through joint research projects, capacity-building activities, publications, and international partnerships. The Hub serves as a platform for showcasing the region’s academic strengths and expanding its visibility on the European research map.
Collaboration, Dialogue and Scientific Exchange
The Hub plays an active role in building scientific bridges between Georgia, the wider Eastern Partnership region, and European academic institutions. Through conferences, workshops, and public events, we foster dialogue on key regional issues while strengthening connections within the Academia Europaea network.
We are committed to promoting excellence in research culture by encouraging academic integrity, ethical standards, and inclusivity. We support knowledge exchange and mentorship across generations of scholars, and promote underrepresented disciplines and voices.
The Tbilisi Hub also seeks to enhance the visibility of regional scholarship, encouraging international partnerships that contribute to long-term capacity building and cultural diplomacy through science.
