Academic Director of Academia Europaea Tbilisi Hub;
General Director of the Georgian National Museum

Prof. David Lordkipanidze is a scholar with a broad academic profile. His primary research focuses on the human and environmental evolution across different historical periods. He has published more than 180 scientific papers, including articles in leading high-impact journals such as ScienceNature, and PNAS.

He is a leader of the archaeological research of the Dmanisi site, where the earliest human remains outside Africa have been discovered. Professor Lordkipanidze, also, served as the head of an international research program that resulted in the identification and study of the world’s oldest evidence of wine production at a Neolithic settlement on the territory of present-day Georgia.

Through Professor Lordkipanidze’s initiative and efforts, the Georgian National Museum has become a highly active center for disseminating scientific knowledge to the wider public. He is personally and actively engaged in the popularization of science through television programs as well as public lectures.

Prof. David Lordkipanidze was elected a member of Academia Europaea in 2010. It is noteworthy that, following Academician Tamaz Gamkrelidze, he is the second Georgian scholar to receive this distinction. Since 2007, Prof. David Lordkipanidze has been a Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute (2008), a Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences (2009), a Member of the World Academy of Art and Science (2010), and a Member of Academia Europaea (2010).
